The Wrafters...and The Wrafter Family Band
The Story So Far....
The later years of this century's teens and the first half of the current decade have seen the Kilbeggan family well and truly establish itself as one of Ireland's proudest champions of ballad, folk, Irish, and trad music.
Peter and Noreen, joined by their three children: Conor, Thomas, and Aimee, have shared stages with some of the biggest names in Irish entertainment, graced historic and iconic landmarks with their talent, and charmed the nation during several television appearances.
The quintet have opened shows for Nathan Carter, The High Kings, Johnny McEvoy, George Murphy, The Fureys, and The Three Tenors (Ireland), The Tumbling Paddies, and The Whistlin' Donkeys, while also performing as special guests of the Ceann Comhairle in Leinster House, and in the hallowed surroundings of the G.P.O. in Dublin in aid of Trocaire.
The Kilbeggan family have also been special guests of famed promoter Billy Morrissey at some of his renowned concerts, lining up alongside legendary names like Brendan Shine, Sandy Kelly, and T.R. Dallas, as well as contemporary stars such as Trudi Lalor, Gerry Guthrie, and Olivia Douglas. They have also taken to the stage of the 3Arena, playing for pop icon Boy George, Irish singer/songwriter Lyra, dynamic duo Jedward, comedy legend Deirdre O' Kane, and boyband heart-throb Aston Merrygold (JLS), when they were invited to take part in a Virgin Media production.
Other television appearances include a famous first Late Late Show performance on Saint Patrick's Night in 2017; TG4's Realta Agus Gaolta talent show where they finished as runners-up; and RTE 1's Today show during lockdown.
The Wrafter Family Band have twice been special guests of Eurovision winner Charlie McGettigan on his long-running Shannonside FM radio show, and have performed at both the National Ploughing Championships and the famous Tullamore Show. They celebrated the release of their debut EP - 'The First Verse' - with two sold out shows at the Tuar Ard in November of 2019, the same year they were also invited to audition for Britain's Got Talent.
Late in 2022, Conor was hailed as, "one of Ireland's finest banjo players", by no less than Enda Scahill from the band WeBanjo3, when he was one of just three winners chosen to perform with WeBanjo3 on stage during their concert at Leisureland in Galway.
That competition, organised by the Galway band together with the Galway Advertiser, was open to entries from all over Ireland, and saw Conor hand-picked to perform with the band, alongside fellow winners, Galway girls Melissa Clarke on accordion and Nicole McLaughlin on concertina. In welcoming the trio on stage, the band declared to a full house that while Britain's got talent, and America's got talent, Ireland has the best talent, as they found during their search.
Recently, Peter, Conor, and Thomas have also taken to performing as a trio, under the moniker of ‘The Wrafters’, where they’ve already established themselves as a much in-demand act on the ‘live’ scene, earning rave reviews for their performances at Fleadh Cheoil 2024 in Wexford, and a debut appearance at the celebrated Kilbeggan Races.
Next up, and after a long wait, The Wrafter Family Band will finally return to the Tuar Ard Arts Centre in Moate, Westmeath, on December 13th for 'Christmas with The Wrafter Band - 'A Seasonal Celebration', a Christmas show that will include some very special surprises on the night!
With such a memorable list of achievements already to their name, December's ‘seasonal celebration’ promises to be everything fans have come to expect from The Wrafter Family Band, with an extra sprinkling of yuletide magic thrown in for good measure!
